Triveni Digital’s Richard Chernock to Lead MPEG Monitoring Discussion at SCTE SoCal Vendor Days
PRINCETON, NJ - October 08, 2007
Triveni Digital, a subsidiary of LG Electronics (LGE), today announced that the company’s director of technology, Dr. Richard Chernock, will present “MPEG and the Art of Video Quality Monitoring” at the 11th Annual SCTE SoCal Vendor Days, Oct. 17 and 18 in Ontario, Calif. Chernock will address the complexities inherent in working with digital video, provide an overview of MPEG fundamentals, and offer practical approaches broadcasters can implement to ensure that content is delivered to customers at the necessary quality standard.
“For many broadcasters, delving into the details of successful DTV delivery is a journey into the unknown,” said Chernock. “Though cable plant infrastructures have become significantly more complex with the transition to digital video, it is possible to put a practical and useful monitoring plan in place. With an understanding of key concepts in MPEG monitoring, operators can take a more proactive approach in maintaining a high level of service.”
Chernock’s presentation comprises four easy-to-digest pieces. It will begin by providing background on MPEG compression and transport, followed by an explanation of how content flows through today’s cable plants. Chernock will then give attendees an overview of current video quality monitoring capabilities and conclude with a discussion of how those capabilities can be leveraged successfully across a digital cable network.
In his work at Triveni Digital, Chernock is involved in developing strategic directions for metadata management, content distribution, and monitoring for emerging digital television systems and infrastructures. He earlier served as a research staff member at IBM Research, where he investigated digital broadcast technologies. Chernock is active in a number of the ATSC and SCTE standards committees, particularly in the areas of metadata, monitoring, and data broadcast, and he is a participant in the SCTE HMS activity. He chairs a number of ad hoc ATSC committees whose work relates to metadata and transport issues, serves as vice-chair of the Technology Group on Distribution (TSG), and chairs the non-real-time (NRT) services and mobile/handheld management layer activities within ATSC.
SCTE SoCal Vendor Days will be held at the Ontario Airport Doubletree Hotel, 222 North Vineyard Ave. in Ontario, Calif. Registration information is available at http://www.rikerconference.net.
