Triveni Digital and Harmonic to Demonstrate Integrated Solution for ATSC Market at NAB2007

Triveni Digital, a subsidiary of LG Electronics, today announced that Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) will display an IP-based ATSC headend solution incorporating Triveni Digital’s GuideBuilder™ program and system information protocol (PSIP) generation system at Harmonic’s booth (SU9620) during NAB2007, April 16-19 in Las Vegas. GuideBuilder is integrated with Harmonic’s comprehensive ATSC headend, which includes the market-leading DiviCom® MV 500 high-definition (HD) MPEG-2 encoder, Electra™ 5000 standard-definition (SD) MPEG-2 encoder, and ProStream™ 1000 stream processing platform with DiviTrackIP™ statistical multiplexing. The solution provides broadcasters with an IP-based infrastructure that enhances their service offering by supporting multiple HD and SD channels in the allocated spectrum.

The Triveni Digital GuideBuilder system generates accurate PSIP data, which forms the foundation for ATSC digital television transport streams and supports digital cable carriage of over-the-air (OTA) broadcasts. Errors in PSIP data can cause serious problems including DTV tuners not finding a channel, closed captions not appearing, or programs not being listed in electronic program guides (EPGs). GuideBuilder features an intuitive interface for managing program event information and helps to ensure compliance with ATSC guidelines and FCC mandates.
Harmonic’s ATSC headend solution is based on the DiviCom MPEG-2 compression solutions, which power the world’s first ATSC system with one SD and two HD channels in the 19.4-Mbps spectrum. The ProStream 1000 is the industry’s first video processing solution that can be easily configured to provide a wide range of stream processing functions — including DiviTrackIP distributed statistical multiplexing, scrambling, bulk descrambling, re-encoding, forward error correction, and single frequency network (SFN) transmission over IP — within an integrated one rack-unit system.
