Rich Chernock of Triveni Digital, a subsidiary of LG Electronics and leading provider of systems for the management and distribution of data and metadata in digital television streams, will present two sessions at the 56th Annual IEEE Broadcast Symposium to be held at the Hotel Washington, Washington DC from September 27 – 29, 2006.

Wednesday, September 27, 2006, Dr. Chernock will present, “Stream Quality Assurance for IPTV”. Key information to be covered in this presentation includes:
· the requirements placed by video on a IP network,
· IPTV quality assurance,
· the importance of analyzing the network and MPEG layers,
· analysis points to consider,
· and how proper analysis ensures the total quality of experience for viewers.

Thursday, September 28, 2006, Dr. Chernock will cover the, “ATSC Recommended Practice on Bitstream Verification”. Key topics presented will include:
· the importance of monitoring transport streams,
· common DTV system defects, their causes and consequences,
· motivations for developing the ATSC recommended practice,
· creating verification methodologies that best benefit the system operators,
· and reviewing the ATSC recommended practice.

Dr. Chernock is the Director of Technology at Triveni Digital. In that position, he is developing strategic directions for metadata management, content distribution and monitoring in emerging digital television systems and infrastructures. Previously, he was a Research Staff Member at IBM Research, investigating digital broadcast technologies. Dr. Chernock is active in a number of the ATSC standards committees, particularly in the area of metadata and data broadcast. He chairs a number of adhoc committees within ATSC whose work relates to metadata and transport issues. He is vice-chair of the Technology Group on Distribution (TSG). In another life, he used transmission electron microscopy to study materials characteristics for advanced ceramics packaging and semiconductor technology at IBM. His ScD was from MIT in the field of nuclear materials engineering.
