Triveni Digital, the leading provider of systems that enable the management and distribution of data and metadata in digital television streams, has teamed with Harmonic Inc. (Nasdaq: HLIT), the leading provider of advanced digital video compression solutions, to provide a bundled solution for low-power television broadcasting (LPTV) stations at CBA 2005.
The solution comprises a DiviCom® Ion™ multichannel MPEG-2 encoder packaged with Triveni Digital’s GuideBuilder™ metadata management system. It provides all of the MPEG and PSIP functions needed for LPTV stations converting to digital. This solution allows stations to support multiple video channels as well as offer advanced digital video services such as push VOD while minimizing capital and operating expenses.
Bundled LPTV Solution Delivers Multichannel DTV Service in 2 RU
With more advanced features than other encoders in its class, the DiviCom Ion can incorporate up to four high-quality encoders and ten stereo audio pairs in a single rack-unit (1-RU) chassis that is managed through a simple and intuitive graphical user interface. The Ion supports constant or variable bit-rate (CBR and VBR) operation depending on the requirements of the broadcaster. VBR configurations include Harmonic’s DiviTrackMX™ statistical multiplexing technology to provide a powerful low bit-rate yet cost-effective single system solution for the LPTV market. This makes it possible for the DiviCom Ion to dynamically reallocate bandwidth between channels as required by the complexity of the content.
The GuideBuilder metadata management system allows broadcasters to comply with the ATSC PSIP standard, retain and enhance their market branding, and protect their channel identities in on-screen Electronic Program Guides (EPGs). The single rack-unit (1-RU) system ensures consistent data generation, as it collects, translates, manages, and generates metadata compliant with ATSC/A65 PSIP standard. The system supports the Broadcast Flag, closed captioning descriptors, and program rating systems for a variety of countries. Using a wide range of interfaces, the GuideBuilder system can import data from a large number of sources including ATSC PMCP, Broadview, DecisionMark, Encoda Systems, ProTrack, Scout, Storer, streaming PSIP input, Tribune Media Services, TV Guide and other file or message based interfaces.
