Triveni Digital Introduces New Toolkit for Developing Data Broadcasting Services
SkyScraper™ Application Constructor Helps Broadcasters Maximize the Use of their DTV Bandwidth and Minimizes Development Costs for New Applications
PRINCETON, NJ — April 15, 2004

Triveni Digital today announced a new toolkit for developing data broadcasting services. The SkyScraper™ Application Constructor lowers the cost of deploying data broadcasting services by minimizing the development time for creating content distribution applications. Broadcasters and content providers may use the toolkit to quickly generate browser-based applications that send data to pre-defined customers through a station’s existing digital broadcast infrastructure. Demonstrations of the new product will be given at NAB2004 in Triveni Digital’s booth #SU11936.

Applications in any content area – including education, homeland security, healthcare and workforce enablement – can be created and branded for cross-promotion by a station or station group. SkyScraper Application Constructor allows a developer to create the browser-based services without any expertise in either datacasting or website design. The toolkit simplifies development with easy-to-use content-packaging tools for broadcasters and content providers. Content providers may queue data with multiple stations and broadcasters can support multiple content providers. End users are presented with search and navigation tools that run in a familiar browser.

"The SkyScraper Application Constructor is the next big and a welcome step for digital datacasting. We believe it will be an important piece in making datacasting available to content providers who want to distribute their information without becoming DTV experts. They can focus on managing the content, and the DTV stream will push their content to many locations," said Dr. Rod Zent, Director, Educational Broadcast Services at Texas A&M University. "The end user will be presented with a website containing the content and will have a seamless experience, with no delays in viewing and searching high quality, local content on their LAN."

Triveni Digital is Making Data Broadcasting More Economical
"With the release of our new SkyScraper toolkit, Triveni Digital is making data broadcasting more economical," said Mark Simpson, President and CEO of Triveni Digital. "Using excess digital television bandwidth allows broadcasters to reach large populations of application users that are waiting to be served. We’re helping broadcasters reach that audience better, faster and cheaper. Evaluation kits are available today."

In order for data broadcasting to be practical, stations and content providers must have the tools to develop applications that can be used to transmit content to targeted recipients. These recipients require access to data that is impractical to view over the Internet, because of the security of the information, the expense of a high-speed connection, and/or the high volume of traffic at the receive site. The SkyScraper Application Constructor marries the familiarity end users have with browser-based applications and provides broadcasters with the means to deliver the information with the same look and feel while bypassing the World Wide Web. Information is sent directly from the broadcast station to the receive site where end users may access the information using a local area network (LAN) and a standard browser.

Used in conjunction with the SkyScraper data distribution system, the toolkit allows broadcasters to offer new services by delivering various types of content through their DTV signals. The complete SkyScraper system supports streaming media, web pages, interactive TV, and any other type of digitized information. Features include receiver targeting, encryption and support for multi-station networks. A flexible architecture allows broadcasters to manage datacasting bandwidth from multiple sources.
