Triveni Digital and Mega Hertz Showcase Head-end Systems for "Plug & Play" Digital Cable Deployments at SCTE’s Cable Tec Expo 2004
StreamBridge™ Metadata System Now Supports SI Management, Digital EAS and SCTE 35 Cue Tones
ORLANDO, Fla., June 16, 2004 — Cable-Tec Expo 2004

Triveni Digital and Mega Hertz are showcasing a variety of head-end systems for "plug and play" digital cable deployments in the Mega Hertz booth # 1845. Demonstrations include the enhanced StreamBridge™ metadata system supporting SI (system information) generation and translation, the insertion of digital EAS (Emergency Alert System) messages and SCTE 35 digital cue tone insertion and translation. Also on display is the new StreamScope™ MT-30 real-time DTV transport stream monitoring and analysis system. The demonstrated systems maximize an operator’s ability to expand their marketing programs and ad revenues while minimizing operational costs and troubleshooting time.

The carriage of off-air digital streams poses a number of challenges for cable operators. The generation and translation of SI and the digital EAS support by the StreamBridge system eliminates those technical barriers while enabling operators to more easily brand and promote programming across different channels. The system’s EAS support allows operators to automate the management of both national and highly localized EAS messages. StreamBridge provides a universal solution with low operational costs and integrates with all commonly used (legacy and new) head-end multiplexing and control systems. The cue tone translation feature of the StreamBridge system allows analog cue tones to be converted to SCTE 35 messages that can be embedded with the digital content for downstream ad insertion. The feature eliminates the additional infrastructure capital cost of cue tone transportation and the additional operational cost of maintaining a parallel distribution infrastructure.

Systems by Triveni Digital enable cable operators to manage and distribute both data and metadata within digital television streams and provide the information required for the consumer to view and interact with on-screen programming guides, PVRs and other emerging devices. As a leading value-added-reseller of cable television products, including analog EAS systems, Mega Hertz plays a vital role in the design, installation and support of cable networks.

The StreamBridge system may collect, translate, manage, and generate metadata compliant with the ATSC/A65 PSIP, SCTE-SI or DVB-SI standards. The systems are compatible with all leading MPEG-2 encoders and multiplexers. SI, EAS and/or SCTE 35 support can be purchased separately or in complete packages.

Engineered for distributed monitoring, StreamScope MT-30 real-time DTV transport stream monitoring and analysis system allows operators to remotely supervise multiple concurrent input sources from diverse physical locations. A key differentiater is the system’s ability to simultaneously monitor and analyze all inputs and sources, from all locations within a single user interface. A visualization station may be configured to monitor multiple systems over an Intranet or Internet connection. The award-winning graphical interface, with an at-a-glance transport stream summary display, saves engineering troubleshooting time by translating complex information into easy-to-read status indicators and messages. This is ideal for monitoring multichannel operations, or multiple points in the signal chain of one channel. StreamScope MT-30 can display HD and SD audio/video programs of all ATSC, DVB and SCTE formats.

About "Plug and Play"
The SCTE (Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers) defines "plug and play" as the shorthand term applied to "integrated" DTV (digital television) products such as DTV sets with cable set-top functionality included in the set. As plug and play technology is deployed throughout the cable network, consumers can simply plug their DTV set into their cable jack and, using a security module provided by the cable operator, receive high-definition (HDTV) programming and related services.
