Decisionmark and Triveni Digital Announce Strategic Relationship to Integrate Program Scheduling and PSIP Generation Systems
Demonstration at NAB2003 Highlights the Operational Effectiveness Achieved by MediaStar and GuideBuilder Managing Multiple Channels of Programming
LAS VEGAS, NV — April 7, 2003
NAB2003, Interactive Living Pavilion Booth # SU7107A and Triveni Digital Booth # SU5475 — Decisionmark Corp., the foremost online software and information provider to broadcasters, and Triveni Digital, the leading solutions provider for data-enhanced digital broadcasting, have entered into a strategic relationship. The companies have integrated the new MediaStar program scheduling application and the GuideBuilder PSIP generation systems to assist broadcasters by making their DTV operations more efficient while providing rich program information. Demonstrations throughout NAB2003 will highlight the operational effectiveness achieved using the joint solution to manage multiple channels of programming.
Decisionmark’s MediaStar is an intelligent online software solution for TV stations' program scheduling, reporting and distribution needs. The first online scheduling application to support multicasting, MediaStar communicates with Triveni Digital's GuideBuilder systems and facilitates real-time scheduling tasks from any virtual office location via the Internet. Without staff additions and expensive retraining, DTV broadcasters use the GuideBuilder metadata management systems to collect, generate and manage EPG metadata that are fully ATSC PSIP compliant. Changes made within MediaStar are automatically transferred into the GuideBuilder at the local station.
"PSIP generation continues to be a critical function within a DTV station. Decisionmark is renowned for providing tools that allow broadcasters to easily perform real-time scheduling tasks and maintain rich descriptive information on television programs. The better the PSIP descriptive information, the more viewers will rely upon it and use it," said Mark Simpson, President and CEO of Triveni Digital. "The leading digital set-top boxes incorporate PSIP based EPGs and the emerging PVR user base depends on this information. Once a station has provided its viewers with detailed program information, those viewers don't want it taken away."
"This strategic relationship is an important step in providing consumers with an improved digital viewing experience. Consumers will benefit by having accurate EPG information available to them via the broadcast stream," said Jack Perry, President and CEO of Decisionmark. "Our companies have teamed to make the broadcaster's job easier and help them leverage opportunities associated with the DTV spectrum."
"By integrating our GuideBuilder system with the newly released Decisionmark MediaStar program scheduling application, stations can now use MediaStar and know that its robust program information will be inserted into their digital broadcast automatically," continued Simpson.
Decisionmark provides software and data tools to over 1,000 broadcast affiliates and the major networks for SHVIA compliance, data analysis and web site program guide service via TitanTV. MediaStar allows broadcasters to edit and populate the TitanTV guide on their stations' web sites in real time while acting as a complete scheduling program for communicating schedules externally and internally. MediaStar is an intelligent online software solution that supports:
- Real-time programming updates to a station's web-site TitanTV guide
- Standard (standard in development) ATSC PSIP file generation
- Remote scheduling
- Multicast schedules in the digital era
Triveni Digital's GuideBuilder metadata management systems are used by DTV broadcasters to collect, manage, and generate PSIP compliant metadata. The product family has been enhanced to support the Broadcast Flag, centralcasting, and distributed control through remote user interfaces. GuideBuilder generates ATSC PSIP metadata based on the inputs from MediaStar and other sources including Tribune Media Services, Myers ProTrack, Scout, Storers SIMS, Encoda Systems and other file or message based interfaces. It then feeds the PSIP tables automatically into the outgoing ATSC transport stream by interfacing to the encoder or the multiplexer. GuideBuilder provides compatibility with the leading MPEG-2 encoders and multiplexers. Triveni Digital's other products ensure that the information is carried correctly via remote towers and cable head-ends. GuideBuilder is part of overall Triveni product family that includes data & metadata insertion, translation, and analysis products.
