Triveni Digital Announces Integration with Harmonic Compression Systems
Integration Allows DTV Operators to Deliver New Services Without Sacrificing Quality
Las Vegas, (NAB2002), April 8, 2002

Triveni Digital Inc. (LVCC South Hall booth L18764), the leading provider of data and metadata digital television equipment and solutions, today announced an integration of Triveni Digital's GuideBuilder metadata management system and SkyScraper data broadcasting platform with Harmonic's (Sands S5527) DataTrack multiplexer and network management products. The combined technologies will offer digital broadcasters greater choice and flexibility when delivering both PSIP and data broadcasting through their ATSC-compliant transmission systems.

The DataTrack product is a core part of Harmonic's DiviTrackXE( statistical multiplexing system and enables digital broadcasters to offer high definition, standard definition, and data streams in a single statistical multiplex. Statistically multiplexing data creates a win/win situation for today's broadcasters by enabling both higher average data rates and higher peak rates for video. As a result, broadcasters can add new data services, such as interactive sports statistics or weather information, while maintaining better picture quality and consistent data capacity.

"Triveni Digital's integration with Harmonic's DataTrack and network management products will enable digital broadcasters to deliver a broad range of data applications with assured data bandwidth while preserving video quality," said Geoff Hillier, Director of Product Marketing of the Convergent Systems Division of Harmonic Inc. "Triveni Digital has interfaced their powerful PSIP and datacasting platforms with Harmonic's efficient statistical multiplex for video and data. This provides our mutual customers with greater flexibility and more programming options."

Triveni Digital's GuideBuilder generates ATSC A/90 signaling as part of its PSIP data that becomes part of the transport stream, and its SkyScraper system sends out data streams to Harmonic's DataTrack. The data streams are then fed into a Harmonic multiplexer for transport to be received by an ATSC DTV data receiver. The data is then discovered using the PSIP data within the stream, decoded, and presented on-screen.

"We are proud to work with Harmonic in combining our industry leading PSIP and SI solutions and widely deployed SkyScraper data broadcasting platform with Harmonic's DataTrack and DTV network management system," commented Nandhu Nandhakmuar, Vice President of Engineering and CTO of Triveni Digital. "This effort will allow digital broadcasters the flexibility to select best of breed solutions, and allow them to provide to their viewers new data-enhanced services without adversely affecting picture quality."

The integration of Triveni Digital and Harmonic technologies is being demonstrated at NAB 2002 in the Harmonic booth, S5527, at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas.
