Triveni Digital and Scout Information Services Help Public Television Stations Go Digital
Combined Technologies Combine PBS Traffic Data and PSIP Information For DTV
Princeton Junction, NJ - March 27, 2001

Triveni Digital, the leading solutions provider for the management of enhanced data and metadata in digital broadcast streams, and Scout Information Services have combined technologies to provide Public Television Stations with Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) and data bandwidth management services for their transition to digital television. Scout Information Services is a net sourced solution provider with Scout's Affinity Group producing traffic and revenue generation software for the PBS market. Scout's Programs Plus traffic software, with available PSIP data exporting and channel bandwidth assignment and exporting, is installed at 22 PBS stations nationwide. Programs Plus transports PSIP information to Triveni Digital's GuideBuilder PSIP Generation System, enabling Public Television Stations to use locally branded program guides and schedule information for their Electronic Program Guides (EPGs).

In the world of digital television, stations manage data streams instead of channels. They have replaced manual systems with fully digital systems for total automation from traffic scheduling through management and broadcast of digital streams to post broadcast reconciliation.

"Triveni Digital's PSIP GuideBuilder Pro is currently integrated with Scout's traffic system at Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) and has been field tested in the PBS station environment," said Nandhu Nandhakumar, Vice President, Engineering for Triveni Digital. "The Scout traffic system feeds GuideBuilder with TV schedule and program information which we insert as PSIP data into the DTV transport stream. This allows the station to automatically repurpose their traffic system data for driving the EPGs on viewers' DTV receivers and set-top boxes."

TPT in St. Paul, a pioneer station in digital broadcasting, was an early tester of Triveni Digital and Scout Information Services' PSIP products. "TPT wanted to try out PSIP technology on-site," Said Don Heppelmann, Senior Engineering Specialist for Twin Cities Public Television. "Triveni Digital and Scout Information Services came to a our station as a team and linked Triveni Digital's PSIP generator with Scout's traffic software and gave us a PSIP display taken directly from our own internal traffic software database."

For Scout's perspective, partnering with Triveni Digital was effortless. "I can't say enough about how easy partnering with Triveni Digital is. Their staff are professional, friendly, and they understand where the TV broadcast market is heading in the digital age," said Daryll R. Mackereth, Traffic Software Product Manager for Scout Information Services.
