Triveni Digital Authorizes TANDBERG Television to Resell PSIP Generation System
Agreement allows TANDBERG Television to resell PSIP BuilderTM Pro with its ATSC systems
Newport Beach, California, August 7 2000
TANDBERG Television Inc., a leading supplier of open digital solutions for the management and transmission of digital TV signals, today announced a non-exclusive agreement with Triveni Digital, formerly LG Electronics Research Center of America, to resell its PSIP Builder Pro AE-10 system. The agreement allows TANDBERG Television to incorporate Triveni's PSIP Builder Pro's dynamic PSIP generation and other capabilities into ATSC system configurations that are sold to television affiliates around the country.
PSIP Builder Pro generates Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) streams for Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) digital television broadcast stations from a single Windows NT computer. PSIP is a group of tables applied to terrestrial and cable broadcasts which provides receivers with program and system information. In essence, it is the roadmap a receiver follows in order to access appropriate video, audio and/or data information.
PSIP Builder Pro automatically validates data formats and creates consistent data across PSIP tables without the need for manual cross-table reconciliation.
Last-minute corrections such as schedule overruns of sports events, emergency news coverage, and program cancellations are also easy to make with the system.
"TANDBERG Television is pleased to be able to integrate with a high-quality product such as the PSIP Builder Pro that is as easy and intuitive for our customers to use as our own ATSC encoder," said Pat Bohana, VP and General Manager, Americas, for TANDBERG Television. "We believe this enhancement to our system capabilities will be of tremendous benefit to our customers, and hope that this agreement will lead to further cooperation with Triveni Digital in the future."
TANDBERG Television will interface Triveni Digital's PSIP Builder Pro into both its current E5820 and its new E5821 ATSC encoders via a remultiplexer card that sits inside the encoder. This new configuration allows single channel stations to eliminate the use of an external multiplexer, and therefore provides not only a more user-friendly system but also a more cost-effective solution for stations launching their digital services. Current E5820 customers will be able to upgrade their systems to this new functionality if they choose to do so.
In addition to the use of the remultiplexer card for single channel applications, multi channel systems will also be able to take advantage of the PSIP Builder Pro's capabilities. The system has also been integrated with TANDBERG Television's evolution 5000 multiplexer, allowing stations with multicasting plans to also implement the full PSIP capabilities of the PSIP Builder Pro in a cost effective manner.
"TANDBERG Television is a leading player in ATSC worldwide, and we are happy to be able to partner worldwide with such a forward-looking company," said Mark Simpson, President of Triveni Digital. "This agreement represents what the concept of "open systems" is all about—two independent companies seamlessly integrating their respective systems into a single DTV solution that provides maximum user friendliness, flexibility, upgradability, and most of all choice."
