LG Electronics Research Center of America changes name to Triveni Digital™, seeks Strategic Investors
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Princeton, NJ – April 3, 2000

LG Electronics Research Center of America, Inc., located in Princeton, NJ, announced today that it has changed its name to "Triveni Digital, Inc."

LG Electronics Research Center of America – a wholly owned subsidiary of the LG group, a $70 billion Korean conglomerate – was established in May 1997. From its inception, the company has focused on development of technology for digital television (DTV). Since January 1999, the focus has been commercialization of its leading edge technologies for the digital broadcast industry.

The name change is part of the LG Electronics’ plan to divest a portion of their ownership and bring in strategic investors to help position Triveni Digital for the rapid growth of the DTV industry. The new name is inspired by the Sanskrit word "Triveni," which means “confluence of three threads” and relates to the importance of systems that manage broadcast stream contents, content descriptions, and stream analysis for the future of “data-enhanced” broadcasting, which is Triveni Digital’s product focus.

Specifically, Triveni Digital is offering three product families:

SkyScraper™ – The SkyScraper system supports DTV data broadcasting by managing the data contents of the broadcast stream. SkyScraper’s componentized and open architecture for data provider, data broadcaster, data customer and service bureau enables an optimal and flexible division of functions for the various constituents of a data broadcast system.

EPG Portal™ Servers – PSIP Builder™ Pro is the flagship product in the EPG Portal server family of products for generating and inserting descriptions or meta-data into the broadcast stream. PSIP is the Program and System Information Protocol, which enables the reliable transmission of data about TV programs and events. PSIP provides the foundation for the Electronic Program Guides (EPGs) so necessary to viewers’ ability to navigate the growing number of program and data service options in the digital future. EPG Portal server products collect, manage, and translate PSIP and other portal data and insert them into the ATSC transport stream.

StreamScope™ – The StreamScope family of stream analysis and monitoring instruments is designed to ensure digital TV transport stream integrity and reliability even in the face of emerging digital data broadcast and interactive TV applications, and evolving complex DTV standards.

"I am excited to see Triveni Digital enjoying great success in launching its product lines aimed at DTV stations and the DTV professional industry. Triveni Digital’s efforts are complementary to the DTV products and business of LG Electronics," said Dr. Woo H. Paik, President of North American Operations & CTO, LG Electronics.

"Triveni Digital is well positioned to take advantage of the growth in the digital television industry. We are committed to open architectures and standards, and have completed integration of our products with a wide range of complementary products from major third party players in the industry, and have partnerships with many of these companies. The synergy amongst our product lines is a key strategic advantage for the future. Our customers have been enthusiastic about the performance of our products and the support of our team." said Mark Simpson, President of Triveni Digital.

KICU-TV, user of PSIP Builder Pro: "I am pleased with the operation of the PSIP Builder Pro, which is a full-function PSIP generator compliant with the ATSC PSIP standard. The software is intuitive and easy to use, quite unlike all other products I've used to date. Hats off to Triveni Digital for a product that works so well this early in the game. The support and responsiveness of Triveni Digital is the best I've had. I would not hesitate to purchase the product again and I've been recommending it to others" said David Lingenfelter, Director of Engineering of KICU-TV, NTSC channel 36, and ATSC channel 52 of San San Jose, California.

DTV Plus, user of the SkyScraper system: The SkyScraper DataHub component enables DTV Plus of Raleigh, North Carolina to schedule and manage several concurrent file types and data rates for maximum flexibility in datacasting. The SkyScraper DataReceiver allows consumers to receive and play digital television programs on PCs, as well as receive data broadcasts. "Digital changes everything," said Sam Matheny, DTV Plus Vice President and General Manager. "It is no longer enough for television stations to only transmit video and audio. The Internet has created an almost insatiable appetite for more and different types of information. Using Triveni Digital's SkyScraper system, we have laid the groundwork for a whole new era in broadcasting, one where the DTV station is a sole source outlet for a complete media experience."

WRAL-TV, user of all three of Triveni Digital’s major products: "I am delighted to report on the operation and use of all three products -- their ease of use and intuitive interfaces are great. The technical support and responsiveness of Triveni Digital are commendable" said Tom Beauchamp, Director of Engineering of WRAL-TV 5 of Raleigh, North Carolina. "Along with DTV Plus of Raleigh, NC, WRAL-HD has been datacasting using Triveni Digital's SkyScraper data broadcast system since October 1999, and began continuous broadcasts of WRAL Online in December 1999. The files that make up the WRAL Online web site, which recently received NATPE's Iris Award, are inserted into WRAL-HD's digital television signal and broadcast as part of that signal. StreamScope has helped us detect buffer overflow problems with our encoders. PSIP Builder Pro is really easy to use, especially with its automatic data import capability from the TMS program listing services. That removes the burden of manual entry of program data from our shoulders."
