Columbine JDS Completes the Interface with Triveni Digital’s PSIP Generator
Completion of Joint Development Between CJDS and Triveni Digital Marks Industry’s First PSIP Generator for DTV Stations Compatible with CJDS Traffic and Automation Systems
Denver, CO April 4, 2000

Columbine JDS Systems, Inc. and Triveni Digital, Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of LG Electronics, and formerly known as LG Electronics Research Center of America) today announced that they have completed the development and implementation of the interface between Triveni Digital’s PSIP Builder Pro AE-10 and CJDS Traffic and Automation systems.

Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) is a group of tables applied to terrestrial and cable digital television broadcasts which provides digital television receivers, set-top boxes and PC-DTV receivers with program and system information. PSIP information is essential for receivers to acquire channels and tune; it is also needed for electronic program guide (EPG) and other navigational software to run on receivers.

Triveni Digital’s PSIP Builder Pro AE-10 is a system product for DTV broadcasters that

• Generates PSIP bit-streams compliant with the A/65 specifications from multiple input data sources which can be multiplexed with the audio and video components of an ATSC compliant broadcast stream

• Allows broadcast station operators to view and edit the PSIP data in an easy-to-use format, such that no detailed knowledge of the A/65 specification is needed

• Generates consistent data across PSIP tables

PSIP Builder Pro interoperates with a number of leading encoders and multiplexers.

The completion of this interface will allow DTV stations to take information from their CJDS traffic or automation systems and use it to automatically drive the PSIP generation process. Data generated by CJDS traffic or automation systems is automatically sent as messages to PSIP Builder Pro AE-10, which then uses that that data to generate PSIP tables.

"The interface between our traffic and automation systems and Triveni Digital’s PSIP Builder Pro allows DTV stations to eliminate the costly task of having station personnel enter PSIP information manually. A primary benefit of the interface is to improve the workflow within DTV stations, decrease the cost of PSIP operations and increase the quality and accuracy of the PSIP data,” said Wayne Ruting, CJDS CEO. “CJDS traffic system users represent the largest collection of stations in the U.S., and we are committed to this interface for every version of our traffic and automation systems as part of an overall goal to transition existing operations into digital broadcasting with minimal investment and overall costs."

We are happy to be able to partner with Columbine JDS -- a recognized leader in traffic and automation systems for television stations, said Mark Simpson, President of Triveni Digital. "This agreement truly illustrates what the concept of “open systems” is all about — two independent companies integrating their respective systems into a single DTV solution that provides to the TV stations a PSIP generation system driven by CJDS traffic and automation systems."
